ProMoMo Speed & Sick Sideways Join Forces
for 2012 Playboy Mx-5 Cup Championship
Newly formed racing teams, ProMoMo Speed and Sick Sideways, have joined forces for the upcoming season of the 2012 Mx-5 Playboy Cup Series in a shared effort to take on the hotly contested championship. Scientific consulting firm, Projections Research, Inc. will be the teams primary sponsor, launching the team's racing campaign at the season opener in Sebring FL this March, during the popular 12Hours of Sebring event weekend.
With both of these teams bringing unique elements and resources to the table, they feel a more robust, budget friendly, and stronger campaign will result and make for a successful debut year. “Although our teams will be new to the pro ranks, we think this symbiotic relationship will really help advance our efforts to the point where we can come out of the box swinging in Sebring”, said Team Manager, Glenn McGee, “We are really looking to upset some of the more established teams, fight for wins, and perhaps even take the 2012 drivers title. It won't be easy, but we think we will be competitive our first year out”.
ProMoMo / SickSideways will field four drivers:
John Dean, Christian Syzmczak, Diane Mould, and Steve Molnar.
About John C. Dean II
(sponsors: Projections Research, Sick Sideways)
Making his debut as a professional racing driver, John Dean is hardly new to racing. Starting his career in karts at the age of 10, John moved on to driving Skip Barber formula cars, and SCCA sanctioned sports cars, where he won several races and regional championships. He also made the jump to motorcycle racing for a number of years, before moving on to a testing role with Dodge where the manufacturer also enlisted him to perform drifting exhibitions during Grand-AM, the Daytona 500, and other major Nascar events. Continuing his expertise developing road cars, John was recently signed as the official test driver for the ambitious Dagger GT Super Car project, which sets out to be the first ever 300+mph road car.
John's entry into The 2012 Mx-5 Playboy Cup Championship is the product of several years of hard work and perseverance. “Racing professionally is a goal I have worked hard towards my whole life”, said Dean, “ It is really hard to get your break in this sport, and I owe this amazing opportunity to my sponsors, Projections Research, Inc. and Sick Sideways. To finally get a chance to prove myself, and start a career, is something I'll never forget.” “As a Pro series, the Mazda Mx-5 Cup probably has the least amount of barriers for entry, which I know contributed significantly to me finally getting this break.”, continued Dean, “Mazda is also known for giving talented drivers that perform well, the chance and means to move up through the ranks, which is perfect for those of us who don't have bags of money and rely purely on results and sponsorship. This makes for a great starting point for me. In any other series, your career is over before it starts.
“John was a natural choice for us”, said McGee, “The guy is ridiculously fast! It's a shame he wasn't given a chance sooner.” “His natural speed, racecraft, deep mechanical knowledge, & years spent as a test driver gives him a skill set that few drivers can match.” “He has become a key member of the team and we fully expect to see great things from him this year”.
About Christian Syzmczak
(sponsors: Sick Sideways)
After an extended sabbatical, 2012 will mark the return as a professional racing driver for Christian Syzmczak, having competed successfully in the Barber Dodge Pro Series, grabbing poles and podiums against the likes of A.J. Allmindinger and the late Rafael Sperafico.
In the interim, he has kept his skills sharp in the ultra-competitivee world of racing simulators, where a staggering number of world record setting times, pole positions, and fastest laps against the world's very best sim-drivers, have many considering him uniquely as the world's fastest sim-driver. Syzmczak has ramped up his experience leading into the 2012 season by competing in several Skip Barber National Championship races and competing in endurance races with the Sick Sideways team in 2011.
“We are very fortunate to have secured Christians services”, said McGee, “I remember him being very quick in formula cars in years past and his times during testing have echoed that speed already. It's interesting how laid back and down-to-Earth he is, but at the same time he is really intense about every little detail that makes the car go faster, we like that!” “I expect he and John will push each other hard all year to go faster and really put us in a good spot come the season finale”
Diane Mould & Steve Molnar
(sponsors: Projections Research, ProMoMo Speed)
Making their pro debut, both Diane Mould and Steve Molnar, have several years competing together in Time Trial & Viper Day events across the country. Diane herself, has taken several podiums and awards during these events and also won her class in the 2009 NARRA National Run-offs at Daytona with Steve winning the 2008 Michelin Challenge, Super Modified, TT Championship. Both drivers moved on to compete together in the Skip Barber Mx-5 Regional and National Championships and have managed to put a couple of endurance races under their belts as well.
“Diane and Steve already bring a solid background racing in Mx-5s and they are looking to build upon that foundation in the pro series.”, said McGee, “We'll make sure they have the proper equipment and support to achieve their goals for the year and develop as drivers.”
“We are looking forward to entering into professional racing and are excited to be a part of a team that is fielding some strong drivers.”, Said Diane Mould, “We expect the team to finish well. For Steve and myself, however, our personal goals are to have fun, become better drivers and improve over this season.”
